Joseph John Cincotta Jr., 80, resident of Coeur d'Alene, passed away Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, at home. He was born Aug. 30, 1931, in Montebello, Calif., to Joseph Sr. and Frances Cincotta. He grew up with one brother, Tommy Cincotta, and two sisters, Barbara Hannah and Patricia Hosken. He graduated from Montebello High School, where he played football and later attended two years at U.S.C., Southern California.
Joseph served in the U.S. Coast Guard for three years from 1951 to 1954 and retired as a master drill sergeant after 20 years from the U.S. Army reserves.
On Oct. 19, 1957, Jospeh married Dorothy Estell Smith at St. Benedicts Church in Montebello, Calif.
He worked for Shell Oil Co. in Houston and Anchorage, Alaska, from 1960 to 1991 and retired as an office manager after 31 years. Joseph volunteered as a tax aide and also at the soup kitchen from 1992 to 2010. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Dorothy, at home, daughters, Theresa Becker of Providence, R.I., and Elizabeth Bolander and her husband Jon of Alpharetta, Ga., son, Robert Cincotta, of Hayden Lake, grandchildren, Kristine Lopez, Austen Becker, Jennifer Becker, Kaitin Bolander and Joseph Bolander, great grandchildren, Colton and Christi and his loving pet and good friend, Nikki, the cockatiel.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Coeur d'Alene, with a reception to immediately follow at the St. Thomas Parish Center. A graveside service will be held following the reception at 1:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Cemetery. English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d'Alene, is in care of the arrangements.
