A Spokane man, one of the two primary alleged actors in the April murder of 37-year-old Antowyn D. Swiney in Plummer, has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter.
Irael S. Kennedy, 21, is the third person to admit some level of involvement in the killing in Coeur d'Alene Tribal housing in the south portion of Plummer.
Benewah County Prosecutor Douglas Payne said Thursday Kennedy now faces up to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced Jan. 13. Kennedy entered the guilty plea earlier this month.
A fourth codefendant, 41-year-old Jody A. Miller, also of Spokane, is scheduled to be tried for first-degree murder starting Feb. 20. Kennedy also had been charged with murder, but got the lesser charge as part of a plea deal.
Swiney died of multiple stab wounds at his girlfriend Angelita Ashby's home, on the 1400 block of South Eighth Street. Ashby had dated Miller before Swiney.
The four defendants left a Spokane bar, celebrating Miller's birthday, and traveled to Plummer the night of the murder to confront Swiney.
"Irael is accused of pushing the door in and tackling (Swiney)," Payne said. "He had the second-greatest level of involvement."
Payne said Miller allegedly wielded the knife.
"All four have different roles," he said.
The two other defendants in the case, Stephen R. Milton and Kelly A. Miller, have pleaded guilty to accessory to a felony, which is punishable by up to five years in prison. Kelly Miller was married to Jody Miller, but they now are divorced.
