WARDEN - The Warden Cougars finished out the regular soccer season in fine fashion Thursday, blanking the Bridgeport Fillies 8-0 in 2B Central Washington South Conference action.
The win runs the team record to 13-1-1 as the Cougars ready for district play Tuesday, Nov. 1.
"The girls played exceptionally well today," coach Don Edson said. "They controlled the game from start to finish."
Warden opened the scoring with a goal from Brylee Whitney off and assist by Taylor Edson in the 14th minute of play to go up 1-0.
The Fillies hunkered down and played tough defense until the 32nd minute when Taylor Edson scored on a shot from the left mid-field position to take a 2-0 lead.
Whitney scored her second goal of the game in the 35th minute on a well placed shot just inside the 18-yard box. The fourth and final score of the match for the Cougars came in the 48th minute of play on a combination of three passes from Whitney to Alexys Jolley who found Edson 20 yards out for the goal.
"The team has played back-to-back games with great team work and effort," Edson said. "The girls are playing their best soccer of the year, which is just in time to start the post season."
Warden will be in action again Tuesday, Oct. 31 when the team opens district action against an opponent yet to be determined.
