MOSES LAKE - Events throughout Grant County give kids opportunities to indulge their sweet tooth and imagination on Halloween weekend.

From trick-or-treat events that provide candy in a safe environment, to haunted houses sure to raise goose bumps and screams, there's plenty of Halloween activities for the young and young at heart.

EPHRATA

* Businesses in downtown Ephrata hand out candy to trick-or-treaters from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday. Participating businesses will be marked with a sign in their window. The event is free to the public.

MOSES LAKE

* Laketown Landing district businesses on Third Avenue from Alder to Beech street hand out candy to trick-or-treaters from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday. Businesses outside that area will have tables set up in Sinkiuse Square to hand out candy. The event is free to the public. For more information, call 509-764-1745.

* Samaritan Hospital offers free x-ray scans of candy 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in their main lobby. It offers parents peace of mind and kids a chance to familiarize themselves with the hospital. The event is free to the public. The hospital is located at 801 E Wheeler Rd. in Moses Lake. For more information, call 509-793-9645.

* Nightscare Productions' haunted house runs Friday, Saturday and Halloween night. Family hours are from 7 to 8 p.m. and adult hours start at 8 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for children. A dollar is taken off for each canned food donation for the Moses Lake Food Bank. The haunted house is located in the agricultural building at the Grant County Fairgrounds.

* The Moses Lake High School ASB and Key Club sponsor trick-or-treating at the high school Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. Children can come in through the high school commons and go down the school's hallways where students hand out candy. The event features a haunted house and photos are available for purchase on cards or buttons. The event is free, but parents are encouraged to donate canned food items for the Moses Lake Food Bank or money for UNICEF. OTHELLO

* The Othello Rodeo Association's annual straw maze at the Adams County Fairgrounds runs Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Family-friendly hours are 6 to 7 p.m. Adult hours are 7 to 10 p.m. (7 to 9 p.m. Monday). An adults-only event is Oct. 29 from 10 p.m. to midnight. Admission is $5 for each person.

QUINCY

* Becerra Gardens features a Harvest Maze and Pumpkin Patch on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. and by special arrangement. Becerra Gardens is located at 9074 Rd. K NW. For more information, call 509-398-2631.

* Businesses in downtown Quincy will hand candy out to trick-or-treaters Monday from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Look for the orange pumpkin in the window for participating businesses.
