Our beloved mother, grandmother and wife, Gwendolyn A. Foster, passed away Sept. 4, 2011, with her family at her side. Gwen was born Oct. 1, 1918, in Belfield, N.D.

She grew up on a small dairy farm near Belfield. She graduated from college at 18 years with a teaching degree. She later attended further college and graduated with a bachelor's degree in elementary and secondary education. She taught elementary school for 29 years, taking time off to raise her family.

She married Edward G. Foster in 1940, and they lived on a large ranch in North Dakota until 1959. At that time they moved near Cocolalla where Gwen taught at Southside School until retiring in 1979. They moved to Post Falls in 1980 and enjoyed retirement.

Gwen was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Gwen loved to read, bake, garden and go to garage sales.

Gwen is survived by her daughter, Cheryl, and son-in-law, Lynn Humphreys; four grandchildren, Kevin Doll, Brent (Mandy) Doll, Tara (Willie) Ranney and Russ (Peggy) Humphreys; 10 great-grandchildren and one foster grandson, Kelly (Robin) and family.

The family wishes to express their thanks to everyone at Guardian Angel Homes in Post Falls as well as Hospice for their loving care of their mother and grandmother. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Hospice.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at English Funeral Chapel, 1700 N. Spokane St., Post Falls, with a reception to follow.
