SPIRIT: Story ignored positives
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 15 years, 1 month AGO
We were very offended by the front page of The Press on Sept. 1 concerning Governor Butch Otter's visit to Spirit Lake on Aug. 31. The wolf protesters did not "Snap Up the Spotlight" as the paper stated. It was a very quiet, orderly demonstration put on by the wolf advocates. They were in one small section of the park and received only minimal contact with the public.
There was no mention of the "Star Discovery Bus" and very little mention of the entertainment provided from renowned musician Rod Erickson or of the wonderful lunch catered by Spirit Creek Catering. The real reason for the visit from the governor and other department head was for Spirit Lake to be recognized as "Capital for a Day" and communication between our government and citizens of small communities. There were great questions and answers that were exchanged throughout the day but instead of focusing on positive, real reason for the governor's visit, YOU, The Press, chose to "give the spotlight" to the wolf protesters.
It would be nice if reporters reported the facts with not so much biases and talked to local citizens about the real reason for the visit and putting the spotlight on our little town on that day.
