Two Columbia Falls harriers grabbed second place at the season-opening Libby Invitational cross-country race on Friday, Sept. 2.

Wildcat Derrick Williams took second in 15:40. He was 10 seconds behind Troy Fraley, of Glacier High School.

"A great first outing for Derrick placing second," Columbia Falls coach Richard Menicke said.

Jinise Osborne came in second for the Wildkats at 20:19. She was 12 seconds behind Nicole Brist, of Whitefish.

"A super, solid, strong second," Menicke said of Osborne. "She's looking to be in fine form early on. She has had some big goals."

Four boys broke the 16-minute mark. James Ratzlof was the other Wildcat to make the top-20, coming in 14th at 17:56.

Only two girls broke the 21-minute mark. Menicke said he was surprised by freshman Meredith Stolte, who came in ninth at 21:40.

"She ran very smart, very strong," he said.
