Candidate filing deadline is Friday
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 13 years, 4 months AGO
Friday is the filing deadline for both city and fire district candidates in the Nov. 8 election to have their name on the ballot.
Most area cities and fire districts have openings, including eight mayoral positions throughout Kootenai County.
The deadline for fire district write-in candidates is Sept. 23 and Oct. 11 for cities.
Candidates must file at their city hall or local fire district office. Candidates must complete a declaration of candidacy form and a nominating petition.
Fire district commissioners are required to reside in specific sub-districts, though they are elected by all voters within the district's boundaries.
Candidates must have at least five signatures of registered voters, which will be verified by the county.
City candidates, not fire district candidates, also have the option of paying a $40 fee rather than gathering signatures.
For more information, call your city hall or local fire district office.
The deadline for submitting such proposals such as bonds, levies, referendums and recalls is Sept. 23.
