Post Falls rallies before falling in 5 at Lewiston

LEWISTON - Allison Meehan had 16 kills and Tori Bertsch recorded 23 assists for Post Falls in a 25-22, 25-23, 30-32, 25-27, 15-12 loss to Lewiston in 5A Inland Empire League play Thursday night.

"We certainly showed some fire and some fight," Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. "There were definitely some positives to take away from tonight."

Savannah Hill tallied 17 digs, Danielle Failor six blocks for the Trojans (2-2, 0-2), who play Saturday at the Lakeland Invitational.

BONNERS FERRY -

Jaylee Sines had 18 assists as the Lumberjacks beat the Badgers 25-19, 25-10, 25-7 in the Intermountain League opener for both schools.

"We started out really slow as we tend to do," St. Maries coach Missy Asbury said. "We had a lot of missed serves and handed them a lot of unearned points. Overall, I was pleased with the last (game)."

Marlee Masterson had eight kills and five digs and Mariah Gladden had six kills and three blocks for St. Maries (5-2, 1-0), which travels to the Lakeland Invitational on Saturday.

WALLACE - Amanda Pehan had 15 kills and nine blocks as the Miners defeated the Knights 27-29, 28-26, 21-25, 25-17, 15-8 in a North Star League match.

Courtney Jennings had 14 assists for Wallace (2-1, 1-0 NSL), which hosts Kellogg on Monday.

No stats were available for Lakeside (4-3, 1-1), which travels to a tri-match in Genesee on Saturday.

FREEMAN, Wash. - Maddi Ray had five kills, but the Hawks fell to the Scotties 25-15, 25-17, 25-20 in a nonleague match.

"We actually played fairly well," Lakeland coach Kylee Garitone said. "We're crossing one bridge at a time right now. We served well tonight, and now we're going to head back to the gym to focus on our blocking."

Lakeland (1-5) hosts its annual invitational Saturday.

SPIRIT LAKE - Brooke Murray had 10 assists and Kelly Madsen had nine kills and two blocks as the Tigers beat the Wildcats 25-16, 25-10, 25-23 in the Intermountain League opener for both schools.

"I thought we played well tonight," Timberlake coach Michelle Garwood said. "We had some trouble in that third match, but we played good overall defense. It was nice to see the kids out there having fun."

Michelle Eastmond had four aces for Timberlake (4-0, 1-0 IML), which travels to the Freeman tournament on Saturday.

Taylor Samuelson had seven assists and five kills for Kellogg (2-1, 0-1), which travels to the Lakeland Invitational on Saturday.

MULLAN - Kami McKinnon had five kills and four blocks as the Tigers defeated the Panthers 25-17, 25-22, 25-17 in a nonleague match at the Mullan Pavilion.

Sydni Kotschevar had seven assists for Mullan (3-1), which hosts Lakeside on Tuesday.

Emily Verhaeghe had eight assists, seven kills, six blocks and Lexie Young had nine assists and seven kills for Coeur d'Alene Charter (0-3), which travels to the Kendrick tournament on Saturday.

LEWISTON - Evan Teichmann scored a goal and had an assist in the first eight minutes as the Timberwolves defeated the Bengals in Lake City's 5A Inland Empire League opener at Walker Field.

"I encouraged the boys to get out to a fast start because it was 100 degrees in Lewiston," Lake City coach Chad Beadell said. "It felt like we were playing on top of the sun. We came out and executed early. It was an overall good team effort."

Mason Sanchez had two goals for Lake City (2-1-1, 1-0 5A IEL), which travels to Lakeland on Tuesday.

Lewiston drops to 0-2 in the IEL and hosts Coeur d'Alene on Saturday.

POST FALLS - Brady Ulen scored an unassisted goal in the 37th minute to give the Trojans a nonleague win over the Bulldogs.

"I thought we moved the ball really well," Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson said. "They didn't have a shot the entire first half and we picked up a couple saves off free kicks. Overall, it was a very good game."

Monty Boyd had two saves for Post Falls (4-0-1), which travels to Moscow on Saturday.

Coeur d'Alene's Adam Borshiem scored twice, including the game-winner in the 73rd minute, and the Vikings defeated Lakeland in nonleague play.

After Borshiem gave the Vikings (4-1-1) the lead in the 18th minute, Lakeland's Alex Opland tied the game at 1-1 in the 39th minute with an unassisted goal.

Coeur d'Alene took the lead when Adam Garman scored on a pass from Joel Wasserman in the 49th minute, but an own goal in the 62nd minute tied the game at 2-2 before Borshiem buried a pass from freshman Gunnar Skindlove for the win.

"Lakeland is a solid team defensively and gave us a real tough game," Coeur d'Alene coach Jeff Lake said. "We had trouble scoring, but it was a resilient game for us and the boys kept fighting back."

Coeur d'Alene plays Saturday at Lewiston. Lakeland (2-3-2) plays at Lake City on Saturday.

COEUR d'ALENE - The visiting Tigers held the Timberwolves scoreless in the second half to get a nonleague win at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.

Michelle Snow and Maddie Ward scored goals in the first half for Lake City (1-1-2), which shuffled players in the second half.

"We were up 2-1 at halftime and tried some new things on the field with it being a nonleague game," Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. "Lewis and Clark has a deep team and at times, we were young on the field. We definitely learned some things about the game today."

Lake City hosts Mead on Saturday.
