Local events are planned for Sunday for the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Here's what's happening:

* A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. at the Post Falls American Legion, 1138 E. Poleline Ave.

Representatives from the fire and police departments and city will be among the speakers.

Starting at 2 p.m., music will be provided by the Kelly Hughes Band. There will be concessions for sale.

The American Legion Riders will have a memorial ride from Post Falls to Newport, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

For more information on the legion events, call 773-9054.

* A tributary ceremony will be held at the Fallen Heroes Plaza in Cherry Hill Park in Coeur d'Alene from 1-2 p.m.

The ceremony is hosted by the city's fire and police departments and military services. It will feature Mayor Sandi Bloem, Fire Chief Kenny Gabriel and Police Chief Wayne Longo.

Honor Guard and military fly-by will be part of the tribute.

An open house in the nearby fire department station will follow the ceremony from 2-5 p.m.

The park is at 1500 N. 15th St.

* Kootenai County Fire and Rescue will dedicate its new training facility next to its administration building, 5271 E. Seltice Way, at 3:30 p.m. There will be tours and refreshments from 4-5 p.m.

The event will pay tribute to those who lost their lives 10 years ago. It will also celebrate the facility, which will help firefighters become proficient in their duties.

The project has been in the making since 1997.

The 10-acre campus includes a five-story, 6,600-square-foot training tower, confined space prop and railcar prop.

Information: 676-8739.

* St. Luke's Episcopal Church will be open from noon to 6 p.m. for a quiet day of prayer and remembrance. Parish hosts will be present throughout the afternoon and copies of special prayers will be available.

* "The Guys," a free play by Anne Nelson commemorating the 10th anniversary of 9/11, will be held at 2 and 7 p.m. It will be presented by the Bombay Cat Theater Project at Coeur d'Alene Public Library, 702 E. Front Ave. Information: 769-2315.
