KHS: Major changes needed

Kudos to Gina Rone and Kelly Breedlove for telling it like it is in the Guest Opinion of Sept. 2. It's about time someone spoke up.

I attended the meeting that Gina and Kelly referred to. I left the meeting with the impression that the Kootenai Humane Society is no longer interested in the welfare of homeless animals. We have at least two members of the Board of Directors who only care about cats. We have an Executive Director who is completely inexperienced. She got rid of the Behavior Specialist so now there is no one capable of matching dogs with prospective homes and/or determining whether they are suitable for adoption.

Most of the competent staff has been fired or forced to quit because of the way they were treated. They have been replaced with a staff that has no idea how to do their job. Volunteers are jumping ship. How long do you expect people to work for nothing when their efforts are only criticized and never appreciated? These are people who love the animals and really want what is good for them.

The only way for this to be fixed, in my opinion, is to get rid of most of the current Board of Directors and fire the Executive Director along with most of her cronies. I wonder if the old Executive Director, Phil Morgan, is available to come back and straighten this mess out. While I may have had some differences with Phil, he is probably the only one in this area that can do the job properly.
