Trojans second at Lakeland tourney

RATHDRUM - The Post Falls Trojans won four straight matches in the Lakeland Invitational before falling to Colville in the championship game 25-23, 24-26, 15-5 on Saturday at Lakeland High.

Post Falls beat Lakeland 25-8, 25-14 to advance to the gold bracket, where it also defeated Coeur d'Alene 25-17, 25-19 and Pullman 25-21, 25-13.

"We played great today," Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. "We had a really good day today. Our offense was really spread out and our defense was doing what we wanted it to by the end of the day. We got to see lots of good competition. Both Pullman and Colville are tough teams, but it was good to play well against tough competition."

Ashley Jibby had 34 kills and 47 digs, Tori Bertsch 79 assists, Danielle Failor 13 blocks and Savannah Hill 10 aces for Post Falls (6-3), which hosts Coeur d'Alene on Tuesday.

Coeur d'Alene beat Deer Park 25-8, 25-16, St. Maries 25-22, 25-6, Priest River 25-15, 25-15, La Jolla 25-17, 29-27 and Pullman 25-23, 25-21, but lost to Post Falls 25-17, 25-19 to finish third in the gold bracket.

Ashley Hammons had 98 assists and 11 aces, Kayla McGlathery had 27 kills and nine aces and Amy Norris 37 digs for Coeur d'Alene (8-2), which travels to Post Falls on Tuesday.

"Ashley did a great job of running our offense and leading our team today," Coeur d'Alene coach Dee Pottenger said. "Kayla was really hard to stop offensively as well. Our ball control on serve receive and transition on defense was really good today."

Sandpoint tied for fifth in the gold bracket.

Lake City split matches in pool play, beating North Central 25-12, 26-24 before falling to Colville 25-15, 24-26, 15-10 to move into the silver bracket. The Timberwolves beat St. Maries 25-14, 25-16, Lewiston 25-19, 25-19 and Lewis and Clark 25-23, 25-14 to win the silver bracket. St. Maries was third.

"We had a great day of volleyball today," Lake City assistant coach Laura Tolzmann said. "We faced some good competition and competed really well today. We pulled through some tight moments and took a step forward and pushed through to the end."

Jennifer Schuman had 45 kills, Kylie Curtis 40 kills and 36 assists, Camille Rounds 50 assists and seven aces, Kelly Jo Cutler eight blocks and Mackenzie Brown 13 digs for Lake City (7-2), which travels to Central Valley on Monday.

Lakeland finished third in the bronze division.

McGlathery, Bertsch, Curtis, Allison Meehan of Post Falls and Mackenzie Jones of Sandpoint were named to the all-tournament team.

Timberlake 4th at

Freeman tourney

FREEMAN, Wash. - Brooke Murray had 44 assists for the Timberlake Tigers as they finished fourth in the Freeman Invitational.

Timberlake beat Northwest Christian 25-20, 25-22, Kettle Falls 25-10, 25-21 and lost to Central Valley 25-23, 25-20 before splitting its final pool play match against Chewelah 25-22, 22-25.

In the match for third place, West Valley beat Timberlake 21-25, 25-14, 15-12.

"I thought we played a good tournament," Timberlake coach Michelle Garwood said. "All of the teams we played were really strong. It would have been nice to have finished stronger against West Valley, but it was nice to see us keep up with those caliber of teams. We got a lot of playing time."

Michelle Eastmond had seven aces and 13 digs, Kelly Madsen 20 kills and Madi Hauck 18 kills for Timberlake (6-2), which hosts Bonners Ferry on Tuesday.

Charter goes 1-2

at Kendrick tourney

KENDRICK - Emily Verhaeghe had 15 assists, 12 kills and seven blocks as the Panthers went 1-2 in the Kendrick tournament.

Cd'A Charter opened with a win against Clearwater Valley 25-21, 25-15 before falling to Kamiah 25-14, 25-13 and Orofino 25-17, 25-20 in the double-elimination eight-team tournament.

"I think we made some progress today," Coeur d'Alene Charter coach Brian Childs said. "It was nice to see the girls start the day with a win. We got off to a good start in all the games against Kamiah and Orofino. We did some good things and made some progress today."

Lexie Young had 14 assists and nine kills, Kelly Martin 16 digs, Alisa Ricciardi 15 digs and Emma Henderson 14 digs for Coeur d'Alene Charter (1-5), which hosts Clark Fork on Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic School.
