College planning

Columbia Falls High School counselors will present their annual College Planning Night for interested students and parents in the high school library on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 6:30 p.m. For more information, contact a high school counselor at 892-6500.

UM scholarship

Cedar Smith, of Columbia Falls, has been awarded a $1,100 Marjorie Frost Scholarship from the University of Montana. A 2009 graduate of Columbia Falls High School, she is a junior majoring in elementary education.

A bill requiring the state to electronically verify that all foreign nationals are in the U.S. legally before issuing a Montana driver’s license or ID card was signed into law by Gov. Brian Schweitzer on April 18.

Uphill skiers need to be aware of avalanches on Big Mtn.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
