Bulldogs show their grit against Cut Bank

ST. IGNATIUS - In a defensive slugfest that saw the game scoreless at halftime, the Mission Bulldogs fell to the Cut Bank Wolves 14-6 Friday night in St. Ignatius.

The Bulldog D that stood tall most of the game finally cracked in the third quarter as the Wolves were able to produce a pair of touchdown runs and make them stand. Mission narrowed the gap to eight points in the fourth quarter when quarterback Dylan Evans found Ryce Hegwood on a 20-yard strike, but the Bulldog comeback fell short.

"We controlled the ball pretty well," Mission head coach Rich Ferris said. "We need to work on finishing drives and getting into the end zone."

While the offense encountered some difficulty after a 41-0 season-opening win against Plains High School, the defense picked up right where they left off, something Ferris was pleased to see.

"Our guys tackled really well," Ferris said.

Next up for the Bulldogs is a road matchup with Eureka High School on Friday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. Ferris plans on reinforcing the basics prior to that meeting.

"We're going to work on discipline," Ferris said. "We have to have better knowledge of what we need to accomplish."
