COEUR d'ALENE - The Coeur d'Alene Police Department reported that four vehicles were vandalized in the city recently, likely the result of youth mischief.

In one incident, the rear window of a black 2007 Chevy Suburban was completely broken out, while the vehicle was in the parking lot of The Spokesman-Review building, at 608 Northwest Blvd.

A sprinkler head was found lying on the ground behind the Suburban, surrounded by glass from the rear window. The estimated damage was $500.

The incident occurred between 5:15 and 6:30 p.m. Thursday, according to a police report.

A day earlier, the rear window of a silver 2000 Jeep Liberty was shattered near the intersection of Eighth Street and Birch Avenue.

There was glass debris on the rear bumper, inside the back of the vehicle and on the street around the vehicle.

Investigators found a small pink shovel on the grass by the vehicle, which was possibly used to break the glass.

The vehicle owner works at Bryan Elementary, located just north. She parked at the incident location between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., when she noticed the damage.

Also this past week, the passenger side mirror of a blue 2002 Ford Focus was broken off.

The owner said she left the vehicle on the street on the 1400 block of North First Street at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, and returned at 3:30 p.m. and noticed the damage.

The previous week, the driver's side mirror of a vehicle was broken in front of a residence on the 2700 block of North Fifth Street.

The owner said he parked the car on the street at 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 4, then returned in the morning to find the damage, which was estimated at $80.

Det. Don Ashenbrenner said that anyone who saw something suspicious at those times and locations should call police.

He said it's likely the vandalism, misdemeanors in these cases, was the result of some youngsters causing trouble.
