COEUR d'ALENE - Don Sausser hasn't always been on the shooter's side of the camera.

The well-known downtown and North Idaho College photographer has also taken plenty of shots on the other side of the camera - as a hockey player.

Don and his wife, Sue, made a substantial donation Monday to the nonprofit Kootenai Youth Recreation Organization ice rink. The Saussers respectfully asked that the amount of the donation not be published.

Here's what Don said:

"Even now when my 76-year-old body dictates no more skating I do totally support KYRO's efforts. As a rink rat I have too many memories, i.e. working on Frank Zamboni's early resurfacers, working in all phases of rink operations (ice guard, resurfacing before Zambonis, skate shop sharpening, racing (I might be the only one to pass the primary figure skating test on highly rockered 13" racing blades!), hockey in a four-team Southern California league, even played the large pipe organ at the Paramount Iceland Rink in California and spent two weeks in Sonja Heine's Ice Review show in San Diego!"

KYRO is seeking donations to help open the brand new rink in time for hockey this fall. If you can help, please call manager Matthew Beam at 765-4423 or visit kyro.org.
