POST FALLS - Here's your chance to grant that age-old parental request to get lost.

In a family friendly way.

The Amaizing Corn Maze, which takes the form of an elk, moose and deer on 12 acres between Post Falls and Hauser, opens its eighth season on Friday.

"It has become more and more of a community attraction for the fall," said Lynn Humphreys, whose corn field has the Northwest wildlife scene. "It's an opportunity to have good clean family fun, and it generates about 40 part-time jobs for the area."

The field, which is 2 miles north of Stateline Speedway where Beck Road and Prairie Avenue meet, has three separate mazes that have more than 5 miles of paths.

It will be open on Fridays from 4-11 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. through Oct. 30.

It will also be open Oct. 25-27 from 6-10 p.m. and to 10 p.m. on Oct. 30 during the final week.

The Trail of Terror, a haunted maze open at night, opens Oct. 8.

Cost is $9 for teens and adults and $6 for children ages 5-12 and seniors 60 and older. Children 4 and younger are free.

The cost increases $1 if the haunted maze is included.

Business coupons are available at checkpoints in the maze and, if you find all 18, you'll be entered into a weekly drawing.

Group discounts are available and separate group outings can be made by calling (509) 990-6088.

Suzie Dunn of Ducks Youth Basketball, the nonprofit that coordinates the event, said there are new attractions at the site this year, including a carnival with high rides to peek into the maze and a free tractor tire playground. The carnival starts the second week.

Attendees can also shoot three corn cobs for $1 with a compressed air cannon and purchase pumpkins and corn stalks.

There will be helicopter rides, weather permitting, on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. Cost is $25 per person for a 5-minute ride to tour the maze and $40 for a 10-minute ride to tour the maze and the valley.

Concessions, including hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, funnel cakes, elephant ears and kettle corn, will be available.

Several nonprofits work at the maze as a fundraiser.
