Kris LaMarr, a commercial truck driver and recent North Idaho transplant, has filed to run for the Hayden City Council.
LaMarr, 48, is running for the seat Councilmember Nancy Lowery is giving up at the end of her term to run for mayor. LaMarr's competitor for the seat is Tim Timmins.
"I am on the conservative side of things," LaMarr said. "I want to be more a part of the community."
He added, "I want to keep it a safe place for my family and other families."
He said he personally knows Mayor Ron McIntire well, but declined to say how.
He said one of his primary goals is to make the city more attractive to businesses, and bring jobs into the community.
He also plans, if elected, to help steer the city on what he said would be a more "organized growth" path.
LaMarr, who has no prior political experience, moved to Hayden two years ago from neighboring Eastern Washington, north of Spokane. He moved to the Inland Northwest from Colorado about five years ago, he said.
He was a graduate of Arvada West High School, in Colorado.
For work, he hauls animal feed on local routes, he said.
Outside work, he hunts and fishes.
"I enjoy the wilderness," he said.
He was re-married two years ago, and between his wife and himself they have nine kids, he said.
