JUNIOR TACKLE

Tyler Clark kicked a 27-yard field goal as time expired as the Seahawks beat the Redskins 35-34 in a wild eighth grade Coeur d'Alene junior tackle football game.

The Redskins' Jonny Plum returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown, and Collin Hunter ran in the extra point.

The Seahawks fumbled on their first play from scrimmage and the Redskins capitalized with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Collin Hunter from Jonny Plum. Alec Seibold of the Redskins ran in the extra point for a 14-0 lead after three minutes.

In the second quarter Austin McMaster raced 35 yards to put the Seahawks on the board. Clark added the 2-point kicked extra point.

Alec Seibold of the Redskins returned a punt 37 yards for a score, with an extra point run by Collin Hunter. With less than 30 seconds left in the half, the Seahawks answered with a 20-yard strike from Austin Lee to Austin McMaster. Tyler Clark added the 2-point kick to make it 21-16 Redskins going into the half.

In the third quarter Kevin Eadie of the Redskins ran in to score from 5 yards out to make it 27-16. The Seahawks answered with a 10-yard run by Austin McMaster - his third touchdown of the game. Tyler Clark kicked the 2-point PAT to pull within 27-24.

On a fourth down play in the fourth quarter, the Redskins converted with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Jonny Plum to Braeson Richmond, and the extra point run from Collin Hunter to put the Redskins up 34-24 with about 3 1/2 minutes remaining on the clock.

C.J. Jones returned the ensuing kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown, and Clark's 2-point kick PAT pulled the Seahawks to within 34-32. The Seahawks then stopped the Redskins and drove for the winning field goal.

Coeur d'Alene Sting under-10 boys (Barcelona): The Sting opened its fall season with a 3-1 loss to the Sting (Chelsea). Keaton Murphree scored the lone goal for Barcelona.

Sting U10 girls Sounders: The Sounders beat the Lakeland Nighthawks Red 5-1 on Saturday. Zoe Cox scored two goals, and Catherine James, Courtney Cydell, and Liberty Croutch each scored once.

Sting U10 boys (Tottenham): The Sting beat Moscow United 5-0 on Saturday. Diego McClure scored a hat trick and Kyler Sorensen and Jackson Henkle scored once each. Michael Simpson had five saves and Marc McClure had three saves in teaming for the shutout in goal.

On Sunday, the Sting beat the Spokane Pumas 5-0. Sam Anderson had two goals and one assist, and Jared Hoffman, Kyler Sorenen and Christoper Swider had one goal each. Bennett Forseberg had one assist and Jacob Janzen had one save.

Sting U12 girls (Engebretsen): The Sting opened WSYSA District 6 play with a 3-1 win over the Shadow G00 Navy on Sunday. Goals were scored by Megan Drake, Rylee Brown, and Abbigail Shrontz. Abbigail Shrontz earned an assist and Payton Barber had two saves in goal.

Sting U14 girls (Bagan): The Sting blanked the Breakers Red 7-0 in their WSYSA District 6 lopener on Sunday. The scoring started with Maddie Coons, Francine Mullen, and Trisha McDonald. Both Francine Mullen and Trisha McDonald scored again, and Hannah Weist and Monique Queen finished the game with a goal a piece. Kia Anderson and Tanner Bowen teamed in goal with a save each for the shutout.

Sting U10 boys (Shaw): The Sting played in the Pend Oreille Cup tournament in Sandpoint Sept. 9-11.

In the first game the Sting played the Castlegar Selects (Carlson/Masini) to a 1-1 tie. The Sting's goal was scored by Cameron Dance.

In the second game the Sting lost to the KEYSA Rovers (Penner) 4-2, with goals scored by Cameron Dance and Tyler Shaw.

In their last game the Sting beat the Sandpoint Strikers (Herrera) 3-2. Goals were scored by Drake Prohaska, Carter Gordon and Jacob Janzen, with assists by Tyler Shaw and Drake Prohaska.

On Sept. 17 the Sting opened its fall season with a 3-1 loss to the Sandpoint Strikers (Giese). The Sting goal was scored by Cameron Dance, assisted by Tyler Shaw. Later that day the Sting tied the Spokane Scotties (Brown) 2-2. Both goals were scored by Tyler Shaw.

Sting U13 boys (Thompson/Vredenberg): The Sting played in the Pend Oreille Cup tournament in Sandpoint Sept. 9-11.

On Friday night the Sting lost 2-1 to the Sandpoint Strikers with a goal by Ezra Grossglauser, assisted by Connor Shaw.

On Saturday the Sting beat the Idaho Thunder (Mallon) 8-0. Goals were scored by Travis Swallow (2), Brayden Lanphere, Riley Glover (2), Max Bennett, Cole Fawcett, and Kade Martinelli, with assists by Connor Shaw, Kade Martinelli (3) and Kyle Duplessis.

In the final game of the tournament the Sting beat the Moscow United (Boll) 5-1. Goals were scored by Travis Swallow (3), Ezra Grossglauser and Justin Kofmehl, with assists by Justin Kofmehl and Travis Swallow.

On Sept. 10 the Sting began league play with a win against CBUnited 97. Goals were scored by Travis Swallow (2), Brayden Lanphere and Callen Trapp, with an assist by Max Bennett.

On Sept. 18, Sting rallied to tie the Breakers 3-3. Sting goals were scored by Travis Swallow (2) and Cole Fawcett.

Sting U10 boys (Fraser): Team Fullham, coached by Scott Fraser, won two games this past weekend. They beat the Spokane Youth Soccer Scotties 5-4 with Sam Anderson scoring two goals and Drake Prohaska, Cameron Dance and Jacob Janzen scoring one each.

Team Fullham also beat Spokane Valley Youth Soccer 10-0 with a hat trick by Drake Prohaska, two goals each by Jacob Overoye and Sam Anderson, and one goal each from Garrett Noordam, Paul Wineinger and Jacob Janzen.

Coeur d'Alene High boys: The Vikings fell 1-0 at Lake City on Sept. 8.

On Saturday, the Vikings tied Moscow 2-2 at Moscow. Tristian Lowery scored first for Coeur d'Alene, with an assist from Cole O'Brien. Moscow tied it at halftime, then took the lead in the second half. Cd'A got the equalizer from Lowery, with the assist to Andrew Swoboda.
