BLM plans prescribed burns: Recent rains combined with this week's warm temperatures provided ideal conditions for prescribed fire activities.
The Bureau of Land Management plans to conduct an underburn on Friday in a previously logged area northwest of Mullan. The planned burn will begin late morning and conclude by sunset. It will be in a 45-acre unit of the Island Pilot timber sale, about three miles from Mullan.
Eighty to 100-year-old Douglas fir and ponderosa pine will be the predominant tree species remaining after harvest treatments in the site.
