MISSOULA - Lexy Boschee had 21 kills and Hannah Liss contributed 41 assists and three aces, but the Sentinel Spartans downed Glacier in a Western AA volleyball match on Friday 25-22, 25-14, 16-25, 20-25, 15-11.
"Game 1 was point for point," said Glacier coach Christy Harkins. "It started out well ... two teams figuring each other out. We had a couple of passing breakdowns right at the end," she said.
The passing struggles continued in the second set as Sentinel served six of its 18 aces in the set.
Harkins switched things up in the third set, putting senior defensive specialist Amy Snipstead into the libero's uniform.
"Sentinel likes to hit the ball to the left side," Harkins said. "That happens to be one of Snipstead's strengths.
"I thought she did an excellent job. Great job with leadership," the coach said.
The Wolfpack roared back to claim sets three and four and came out strong in set five as well. But passing again became the Wolfpack's downfall. It missed a serve then got aced twice "and didn't quite recover," she said.
"I thought we were more consistent. I was really, really pleased with how the girls adjusted to the changes and I was really proud of them fighting back," she said.
Glacier lost a tough, late, and emotional match on Thursday to Flathead - and dropping the first two sets to Sentinel "we could have been going home early. We decided to step it up and compete. I was really proud of them for that."
The Wolfpack (4-6, 2-3) plays host on Tuesday to Missoula Big Sky.
Kills - Glacier 48 (Lexy Boschee 21), Sentinel 42 (Olivia Roberts 9, Haley Druyvestein 9); Assists - Glacier 42 (Hannah Liss 41), Sentinel 37 (Maddie McCarthy 31); Blocks - Glacier 13 (Cassidy Hashley 6), Sentinel 6 (Druyvestein 4); Digs - Glacier 68 (Amy Snipstead 21), Sentinel 60 (Kimmy Kavran 20); Aces - Glacier 10 (Liss 3, Emily Gilbertson 3); Sentinel 18 (Sadie Ahearn 5, Hannah Kirkeide).
