NATIONAL LEAGUE
Ryan Braun hit a three-run, go-ahead homer in the eighth and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the visiting Florida Marlins 4-1 on Friday night to win their first division title since 1982.
Prince Fielder also homered for Milwaukee, which clinched the NL Central and reached the postseason at the earliest date in team history after waiting for 20 minutes the Cubs beat the Cardinals.
Diamondbacks 3, Giants 1: At Phoenix, Arizona completed an improbable run to its first NL West crown in four years, beating San Francisco when rookie Paul Goldschmidt lined a two-run triple off Sergio Romo in the eighth inning.
Cubs 5, Cardinals 1: Alfonso Soriano dealt St. Louis' wild-card hopes another serious blow with a three-run shot in the eighth that lifted visiting Chicago.
The loss dropped the Cardinals three games behind Atlanta for the wild card.
Braves 7, Nationals 4: Dan Uggla and visiting Atlanta knocked around Stephen Strasburg a bit in a three-run first inning, and the Braves helped their bid for a playoff berth by beating Washington.
Pirates 4, Reds 3: Ryan Ludwick's RBI single in the ninth lifted Pittsburgh past visiting Cincinnati.
Astros 11, Rockies 2: Carlos Lee drove in four runs and Houston routed visiting Colorado.
Dodgers 2, Padres 0: Ted Lilly combined with three relievers on a four-hitter, leading Los Angeles at San Diego.
Philadelphia at New York: The Phillies-Mets game was postponed because of rain and will be made up as part of a doubleheader today.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
Athletics 3, Angels 1: At Anaheim, Calif., Gio Gonzalez outdueled Jered Weaver and Oakland scored the go-ahead run on an eighth-inning error, eliminating Los Angeles from the AL West race.
The Angels' defeat clinched the division for Texas. The loss also dropped Los Angeles 3? games behind Boston in the AL wild-card race.
Blue Jays 5, Rays 1: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Brandon Morrow pitched seven scoreless innings and Toronto further dampened Tampa Bay's playoff hopes.
The Rays dropped 2? games behind Boston in the AL wild-card race. Tampa Bay has only five games left.
Tigers 4, Orioles 3, 11 inn.: Victor Martinez's run-scoring double in the 11th lifted Detroit past visiting Baltimore.
Royals 11, White Sox 1: Bruce Chen allowed two hits in eight innings, leading Kansas City at Chicago.
Indians 6, Twins 5: Carlos Santana's homer in the ninth lifted Cleveland past visiting Minnesota.
Boston at New York, ppd., rain: The Red Sox-Yankees game was postponed because of rain and will be made up as part of a doubleheader Sunday.
