Jewel Basin Road closed

Jewel Basin Road No. 5392 will be closed weekdays for resurfacing for two weeks from Sept. 21 through Oct. 6. During that time, public travel will be allowed on Saturdays and Sundays. For more information, contact the Swan Lake Ranger District at 837-7500 or visit online at www.fs.usda.gov/flathead.

North Fork roads closed

Coal Creek Road No. 317 will be closed to public use at approximately mile marker 3.5 for one month starting Oct. 3. Cyclone Creek Road No. 909, off Hay Creek Road, can be used as an alternate route around the construction, but it will not be possible to drive the loop from Big Creek Road No. 316 to Hay Creek Road No. 376. A bill requiring the state to electronically verify that all foreign nationals are in the U.S. legally before issuing a Montana driver’s license or ID card was signed into law by Gov. Brian Schweitzer on April 18.

Uphill skiers need to be aware of avalanches on Big Mtn.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
