Jerry House is now serving as a school superintendent in Big Sky.

“I was retired for two days,” House said last week.

House, who retired from the Whitefish School District this summer, is serving as the interim superintendent at Ophir School District.

House served as superintendent in Whitefish for 11 years.

He contacted the Montana School Boards Association when he retired from Whitefish saying he would serve as an interim superintendent if any district in the state had the need.

“I’ll be here one or two years,” he said. “No more than two years. Big Sky is a nice fit.”

House said he and his wife Deb are enjoying their time in Big Sky, but plan to return to Whitefish.

“Deb is heavily involved in the Ophir School Council (PTA) and booster club,” he said. “We still have our home in Whitefish and we’re coming back.”

Ophir has about 200 students. House also serves as the K-12 principal for the district.

“I am humbled, excited and eager to begin meeting all of you and serving the children, young adults and staff of Ophir School District,” House writes in a letter on the Ophir district website.
