I mentioned in my last report that I have been away for a while and had been at Fish Camp. While I was there I got a chance to fish in the Columbia River Gorge near Biggs and off the mouth of the White Salmon River, with retired guide Herb Good.

The method we used was called "hover fishing", which means that we put a gob of eggs on the bottom with a 2 ounce sinker and just let the current move the bait across the bottom.

We were bothered by peamouth chubs, but it didn't prevent Good from putting on a real show. We boated 12 kings, from a couple of jacks to Chinook weighing 25 pounds. We were using fairly short rods, low profile level wind reels, loaded with 45-pound braid and heavy leaders.

Good told me that when I got back to Fish Camp to grab all the Pautzke BORX Fire egg cure that I could. He said that was his secret for success on this particular day. The eggs he cured with the Pautzke BORX Fire looked great and the fish loved it.

The other boat in our party landed only two fish for four anglers. Good is an expert hover angler on the Columbia, and the said the bait made all the difference.

I had a great experience the other day. I had stopped by Hooked on Toys in Wenatchee and ran into someone that I knew from Lake Chelan.
