'Mockingbird' firstin new film series

COEUR d'ALENE - A new movie series at the Coeur d'Alene Public Library is designed for patrons who love classic books and classic movies.

"Moving Books," a film series sponsored by the Coeur d'Alene Public Library Foundation, will feature movies made from books.

The first film in the series, to be screened Thursday, Oct. 6, at 7:30 p.m., is the Academy Award-winning "To Kill a Mockingbird." This 1962 film from Universal Pictures stars Gregory Peck and includes one of the first film roles for Robert Duvall. It is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Harper Lee.

A $5 donation is suggested. Free popcorn is provided. Proceeds will be used to enhance the library's DVD collection.

"Moving Books" will be screened the first Thursday of each month through May on the big screen in the Community Room at the library, 702 E. Front Ave.

Coming attractions are: Nov. 3 - "Jane Eyre;" Dec. 1 - "Polar Express;" Jan. 5 - "Sophie's Choice;" Feb. 2 - "All the King's Men;" March 1 - "The Lincoln Lawyer;" April 5 - "Tangled;" May 3 - "Charlie Wilson's War."
