COEUR d'ALENE - The race for the 5A Inland Empire League volleyball regular season championship is back on.

Ashley Jibby had 15 kills and three aces as the Post Falls Trojans defeated the league-leading Lake City Timberwolves 25-22, 25-16, 25-19 on Thursday night at Lake City High.

Lake City (10-5, 3-1 5A IEL) entered Thursday's game with a two-game lead in the league over Post Falls and a chance to clinch a tie for the league title, but the Trojans were able to turn the tide after a three-game loss earlier in the season to the Timberwolves.

Danielle Failor had seven blocks, Jazmin Chavez 15 digs and Brooke Litalien five digs and three aces for Post Falls (17-5, 4-2), which hosts a tri-match with Moscow and St. Maries on Saturday.

"We made some changes to the lineup and we're playing like a team," said Post Falls coach Willow Hanna, whose team started 0-2 in league. "We're celebrating the great things we can do as a group. These girls are ready to work for each other."

Post Falls concluded league play on Thursday and will not see another team from its league until the Region 1 tournament starting on Oct. 20.

"Our schedule this season was kind of interesting," Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. "It's kind of a wait and see for us now as far as league goes. It seems odd to be done with league in September, but we won't see another team from our league for three weeks, so I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not."

Senior Tori Bertsch had 24 assists and seven kills for Post Falls.

"I thought we dug the ball really well tonight," said Bertsch, who signed a letter of intent to play volleyball next season at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Mont., earlier this week. "We've been playing really well when we've been in a system on offense."

"I've been much more relaxed since then," Bertsch said of her college commitment. "I'm done with the process and happy with my decision. Now I can just focus on the game."

Kylie Curtis had 12 kills and three digs, Camille Rounds 23 assists, Mackenzie Brown eight digs and Kasey Widmyer four blocks for Lake City, which hosts Glacier High of Missoula on Saturday.

"This was a big-time hiccup for us tonight," Lake City coach Bret Taylor said. "We lost on Tuesday (at Sandpoint) and we're battling some sickness and injuries, but that's no excuse for how we played tonight."

Lake City hosts Lewiston next Thursday and concludes league play at Lewiston on Oct. 13. The Timberwolves will need a win in both to claim the top seed to regionals outright.

"Their serve-receive was a lot better tonight (than in the last meeting)," Taylor said of Post Falls. "And their ball control was phenomenal. Willow and her teams are always top notch. We weren't as prepared as we should have been tonight, and that's my fault. We'll be ready the next time we play."
