A KISS GOODNIGHT

I climbed the door and shut off the stairs

I said my shoes and took off my prayers

I brushed my makeup and took off my teeth

I pulled down my alarm and set my sheets

I shut off the bed and climbed into the light

And all because he kissed me goodnight

Many, many years ago,

high up on this hill,

something strange happened then

and I don't understand it still.

Water came, a lake was formed,

causing certain rocks to leach,

Beneath the waters of the lake,

miles wide, and very deep.

No one knows how long the lake remained,

its dammed up water did its best,

to thoroughly soak those certain rocks,

then years of pressure did the rest.

One thing's for sure, some people know,

six thousand years ago,

an Oregon volcano blew its top,

scattering its ash here in North Idaho.

They sell you all these bottles to make you look so young.

If I get rid of all my wrinkles, who will know where I have been,

how many miles I have traveled, how hard the path within?

So I bought a better mirror, which shows me every line.

It's really pretty scary, this wrinkled face of mine.

But the hope that's in the bottle, to take the wrinkles out,

do I look good when I'm going? Or will my life a story tell?

I've been here and I lived it.

I hope I did it well.
