RICHLAND - Moses Lake boys tennis had a disappointing outing against the  Bombers Tuesday as they dropped their match to Richland, 5-2.

The Chiefs girls team struggled as well losing three of four singles matches, but took all three doubles matches for a come from behind 4-3 win.

Boys

Moses Lake's No. 1 singles Levi Huddleston lost in two sets to Travis Zuroske, 6-2, 6-2. Josh Black, the Chiefs No. 2 singles dropped his match to, Zach Fisher 6-3, 6-0.

But Moses Lake rebounded with two wins by No. 3 singles Tyler Knapp who defeated Brian Burke in two sets 6-1, 6-1, and No. 4 singles Cody Jones who got by James Graff 7-5, 6-3 to earn the split.

The boys doubles never got on track Tuesday as they dropped all three matches. The No. 1 doubles team of Tiernan Hall and Drew Perez lost to Greg Ciucci and Patrick Kinder 6-3, 6-0.

The No. 2 doubles Tyler McFarland and Matt Schafer were defeated in two sets, 6-4, 6-0 by Wyatt Muntean and  Trent Prussing, and the Chiefs No. 3 doubles Jordan Earl and Marco Sanchez were turned back by Taylor Armstrong and Edward Jaffe in two sets, 6-1,6-3.

"Richland has a group of state level players ... not too many teams can get us like they did today," coach Jon Wrigley said. "But we have still not lost at third singles this year, and Cody continues to build confidence at four singles."

Girls

The Chiefs girls team found the early going rough against the Bombers as they lost the first two singles matches. Moses Lake's No. 1 singles Courtney Kunjara was shutout 6-0, 6-0 in her battle with Tasha Talbot.

Alyssa Tucker, the Chiefs No. 2 singles lost in two sets, 6-2, 6-3 to Madeline Quick, but Ece Yilmaz beat Hailey Thompson 6-4, 7-6(2) to stop the Bombers streak. Moses Lake's No. 4 singles Sierra Gallaway was blanked by Anna Lipton 6-0, 6-0.

The Chiefs bounced back in a big way, taking all three doubles matches to scratch out the win over Richland.

The No. 1 doubles team of Becca Byam and Annalise Odegaard beat Allison Boynton and Melody Qui 6-3, 7-5.

The No. 2 doubles Dorothy Catey and Carina LeFave downed Ashley Hampton and Eva Klos 6-4, 6-0, and the No. 3 doubles Marki Koreis and Kylee McKay turned back Caitlin Haan and Maria Tartakovsky in two sets, 6-3, 6-3.

"Our doubles remains undefeated in league play," Wrigley said. "All three  teams have been doing real well applying strategy pieces we work on in practice. We were the more active team on all three courts, it came down to the girls wanted to win more then Richland did.  Ece was the deciding match, she was up 5-2 in the second set and rolled her ankle.  It made things get a little close, but as the ankle loosened up she got her groove back and finished the match."

The Chiefs are back on the court for one more match before spring break when they travel to Kennewick to take on the Southridge Suns in a non-league match.

Moses Lake will host Wenatchee April 12 at 3 p.m.
