EPHRATA - The Tigers had hopes of doing what no other team has done so far this season; knock off the undefeated Huskies when they came to town Saturday.
But Othello had another thing in mind on the cold blustery morning as the team turned back Ephrata 3-1 in Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) competition.
The Huskies did all of their scoring in the first half on two goals by Jorge Campos and another by Matt Jones to come away with the victory.
The non-league win improves the Huskies to 7-0 overall. Othello is 1-0 in CWAC league play.
"We did what we needed to do in the first half scoring three goals and shutting them off the board," coach Bernie Garza said. "We got lazy in the second half and didn't finish our shots and had a lot of offsides calls against us."
Campos put the Huskies up 1-0 on his first goal of the match three minutes into the contest off an assist by Alec Alvarez. Jones added his goal two minutes later to increase Othello's lead to 2-0. Campos got his second goal of the match (Eddie Mendoza) at the 27 minute-mark to stretch the score to 3-0 with 13 minutes to go in the first half.
The Huskies were in complete control of the match and looked as though they would record another shutout, but the Tigers popped the bubble with an unassisted score by Dylan Benthem at the 66 minute-mark to take the goose egg of the board, 3-1.
Othello out shot Ephrata 14-4 on the day. The Tigers Matt Helsley had five saves.
"I wasn't really happy with our play," Garza said. "It was an ugly win, but a win is a win."
The Huskies are back in action April 7 when they travel to Grandview for a league match up with the Greyhounds
