Last Thursday and Friday Bigfork’s golf team played their first 18 holes with the season opener at the Loyola Invitational in Missoula.

The Boys took fourth place out of ten teams, with 364 on Thursday and 377 on Friday, totalling 741 for the tournament. Loyola’s boys won the tournament with a 622 tournament total.

It was literally the first 18 holes the team had scored since they started practicing because of wet spring weather, but Bigfork golf coach Steve Hullet said it was not a bad first go.

“The first tournament is always a learning experience,” Hullet said. “The younger kids played better than I really expected for their first tournament.”

Bigfork’s Blake Weimer took eighth on the boys side with 82-87—169 and Lars Gitting took tenth with 84-88—172.

Sara Keenan was the only member of the girls squad that went and she place fourth with 82 on Thursday and 94 on Friday, totally 176 overall. Hullet said Keenan was sick on the second day, so she wasn’t up to playing as well as she did on Friday.

Eureka, Loyola, Three Forks, Manhattan Christian, Shelby, Conrad, Seeley-Swan, Thompson Falls, Ronan, Townsend, Superior and Saint Regis all played at the invitational.

Thursday the golf team heads to Shelby with three players on their roster because of spring break. Sara Keenan is going for the girls and Lane Thole goes with Blake Weimer for the boys.
