KENNEWICK - Junior Sadie Nielsen set a personal record for the second week in a row.

On March 24, she broke a Moses Lake High School record in the discus with a throw of 130'2". This time, it was a toss of 37' 3" in the shot put to help lead the Chiefs to a fourth place finish at the Southridge Invite Saturday. She also beat her personal best in the discus, which she set last week, with a throw of 132'3"

"Sadie is really having a good season so far," coach Nicki Weiland said. "She finished first in the shot at Southridge and took first in the discus and is ranked No. 1 in 4A competition in the event."

Several Chiefs turned in individual performances worthy of note at the meet. Sophomore Caylah Lunning took top honors in the long jump with a leap of 17'3.5". Sophomore Diamond Ransom took second place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13 seconds flat. Sophomore Kayla Grigg finished fifth (13.13). Freshman Stephanie Overland (27.24) placed third in the 200 meter dash, and twin sister Alysha finished second in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 47.85.

Moses Lake also had three of the top 10 finishers in the triple jump. Grigg placed fourth (32'9.75"), freshman Casci Carpenter (32'3.5") took fifth, and senior Kimberly Bakker (32'2") finished sixth.

The Chiefs relay teams had good outings as well. The 4x100 team of Ransom, Grigg, London Cleverly and Alysha Overland took first place with a time of 50.84. The 4x200 team of Ransom, Stephanie Overland, Arlena Hannan and Alysha Overland finished first (1:48.49), and the 4x400 team of Selina Koon, Hannan, Carpenter and Stephanie Overland placed third with a time of 4:18.80.

"I was really happy with the way the girls performed at the invite," Weiland said. "This was Caylah's first meet and her first-place finish in the long jump ranks her in the top 10 in the 4A," Weiland said. "We have an outstanding group of underclassmen on the squad this year and we expect to see great things from the girls if they can stay healthy."

Moses Lake is back on the track Saturday when the Chiefs head south to take part in the Davis Invite in Yakima.
