ST. MARIES - Senior pitcher J.D. Page struck out 21 and walked only two batters and the Timberlake Tigers scored eight times in the eighth inning to beat the St. Maries Lumberjacks 8-0 in the Intermountain League baseball opener for both schools on Tuesday at City Park.

"He was in great command all night and really put the pressure on our hitters," said St. Maries coach Craig Tefft of Page. "Our guys had a tough time of putting the ball in play against him. He was just in command with his fastball and curveball and was in complete control out there."

Ryan Sullivan had six strikeouts for St. Maries, but left the game in the seventh after reaching his limit on pitches for the day.

"Ryan pitched a heck of a game," Tefft said. "He gave us a heck of an effort."

Trevor Masterson and Hunter Tonkin had two-run singles in the eighth for Timberlake (4-0, 1-0 IML), which travels to Newport on Thursday.

Ryan Barbour singled with one out in the eighth for St. Maries (0-4, 0-1), which is scheduled to host Bonners Ferry on Saturday.

RATHDRUM - Troy Carr walked and eventually scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Hawks defeated the visiting Trojans in nonleague play.

"It was a well-pitched game, solid defense, and guys hit well in spots," Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said. "It's too bad it came down to a passed ball."

Bradbury had praise for junior James Prockish, who fouled off about a half-dozen pitches with an 0-2 count to stay alive, and was batting when Carr scored on the passed ball.

Carr pitched five shutout innings of relief, striking out seven, walking one and allowing two hits for Lakeland (3-2).

Grayson Ludiker's RBI double in the third inning gave Post Falls (2-4) a 3-1 lead.

Lakeland is scheduled to host Coeur d'Alene today at 4. Post Falls is home vs. Lake City on Thursday.
