Two from Royal honored by ESD

ROYAL CITY - Two members of the Royal School District educational staff were recognized at the North Central Educational Services District Grant County Excellence Banquet at Moses Lake on March 27.

Receiving awards for Royal School District were Red Rock Elementary School teacher Candy Vermeer and Red Rock Elementary School paraprofessional Jamie Widdison.

Vermeer was honored for her dedication, excellence and service in teaching for 24 years. Widdison was honored for her service and dedication to excellence for the students of RSD for 24 years as well.

The awards ceremony took place at the Big Bend Community College campus ATEC Building. It was hosted by Warden School District, and the master of ceremonies was Dr. Sandra Sheldon, Warden School District Superintendent.

Employees from Grand Coulee Dam School District, Quincy School District, Royal School District, Soap Lake School District and Warden School District were honored. They were treated to a buffet dinner and slide show.

Presenting for Royal School District were Theresa Eilers, Red Rock Elementary School Principal, to Candy Vermeer and Lesa Buster, Royal School District Special Education Director, to Jamie Widdison.

Police responded to a Friday morning report of a student outside Coeur d’Alene High School with what appeared to be a firearm, which turned out to be a water gun.

A Hayden woman who pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $162,000 from her former employer, some of which she repaid, received a jail sentence, according to the Idaho State Tax Commission.
