Figpickels Toy Emporium has grown into the Resort Plaza Shops.

Moving from 312 Sherman Ave. where it's been since 2003, Figpickels will move next week into the former Daisy J's space in the northwest corner of the complex. Daisy J's has moved to an interior space.

The primary reasons for the move are space (40 percent larger than the old space) and owners Brett and Susan Sommers have two other stores - Papillon Paper Emporium and Mrs. Honeypeep's Sweet Shop - in the Plaza Shops. The Sommers said the previous store was too crowded and didn't allow space for demonstration tables.

While the inventory will continue with traditional and storybook toys, characters, animals and activities, a new area will feature an expanded book section "Garden of R'Eden" with grass, magical trees and virtual birds.

Coming from metropolitan New York, the Sommers' discovered Coeur d'Alene while driving through and moved here within six weeks. Son Devin is on a Fullbright Scholarship teaching English at a university in Turkey, and Austin is a junior at the University of Idaho. Store manager is Russ Frazier.

Next Sunday the public is invited to help walk the last toy from the old store to the new at 2 p.m. A grand opening will be announced later, possibly with the introduction of a new product. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 to 6 Friday and Saturday and 11 to 5 Sunday. Phone 667-2800. Check www.figpickels.com.
