Born Aug. 28, 1919, to William Bailey Asbury and Pearl (Swezea) Asbury at the family homestead located at the top of the hill between Carlin Bay and Thompson Lake. He joined his brother, Clarence and Sister Frances.

Gene graduated from the eight grade at Carlin Bay School. In February 1941, he joined the Army and served honorably in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war ended, he was a military police officer at Fort Lewis where he was part of the honor guard for President Truman.

In August 1948 Gene moved with his new bride, Erma (Sedy) to Harrison where they raised four children. He worked in sawmills for nearly 40 years, retiring from Northwest Timber Co. in 1988. The family moved to Hayden in 1970. After the death of Erma in 1972, he married Vivian Sedy. They traveled to the East Coast visiting his children and later went to Taiwan and China to visit his children on the mission field. He faithfully attended the Bible Missionary Church, enjoyed family gatherings, reading the Bible, singing, gardening and raising chickens.
