PREP SOFTBALL: Rasmussen hits, Ragsdale pitches Coeur d'Alene to win

POST FALLS - Chelsey Rasmussen homered twice and Nikki Ragsdale struck out nine as the Coeur d'Alene Vikings defeated the Post Falls Trojans 15-0 on Thursday in a 5A Inland Empire League game.

Randi Spencer had three RBIs for Coeur d'Alene (5-2, 2-2 5A IEL), which travels to Lakeland today.

"They hit the ball really well and got the hits when they needed them," Post Falls coach Jack Foster said. "We're getting better, but we've got a ways to go to catch up to Coeur d'Alene and Lake City."

Post Falls (0-10, 0-4) will travel to Sandpoint on Monday for a doubleheader.

COEUR d'ALENE - Katie Rowe hit a pair of two-run homers to pace the Timberwolves past the visiting Hawks.

Rowe homered in the third and fourth innings for Lake City (8-1). Casey Stangel struck out 10 in a one-hitter and added a two-run single in the first inning and a two-run double in the fourth.

Vanessa Shippy was 3 for 4 with three runs, two RBIs and two stolen bases, and JaeCie Wilson was 3 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs.

Bekah Kastning singled in the fourth inning for Lakeland (2-4), which travels to Sandpoint for a doubleheader Thursday.

Lake City returns to action next Tuesday at home vs. Coeur d'Alene.

SPIRIT LAKE - Kodi Kuykendall, the Tigers' lefty slapping leadoff hitter, hit her first career homer - an inside-the-park liner up the alley in right center past a drawn-in outfield - to spark Timberlake past the Spartans in Intermountain League play.

Lexi Posch, the Tigers' No. 2 hitter, went 4 for 4 and scored three runs for Timberlake (5-2, 4-0 IML).

"She's a sparkplug," Tigers coach Mike Menti said. "That's two fast girls at the top of the lineup."

Sydnie Malloy went 3 for 3 with three RBIs, and Nicole Cameron struck out six for Timberlake, which plays at Bonners Ferry on Saturday in a doubleheader that was previously scheduled for Friday.

Kelsie Fink hit a two-run home run in the fourth for Priest River (1-1, 1-1).

KELLOGG - The host Wildcats led 5-3 after five innings, but committed four errors in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh, and the Lumberjacks scored nine runs in the final two innings of the Intermountain League game at Kellogg Middle School.

Marlee Masterson drove in three runs for St. Maries (2-5, 2-2 IML).

Tarah Ivie hit a two-run homer in the first inning for Kellogg (0-5, 0-3).

The teams are scheduled to meet again Thursday in a doubleheader at St. Maries.
