Passed away on April 4, 2012, at his home in Coeur d’Alene. Bob was born Dec. 27, 1927, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to William and Reva (Brough) Berquist.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mille; daughters and their husbands, Charlene Berquist and John Bourhis of Springfield, Mo., and Judy Berquist and Paul Vandervelde of Boise; grandchildren, Sara and Brian Freeburg; and great-grandchild Kaleb.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Anna Lou; as well as numerous aunts and uncles.

Bob was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Queen Esther Chapter of Eastern Star and a 54-year member of the Masonic Lodge No. 34.

Bob grew up in Kellogg. After graduation from Kellogg High School, he joined the United States Navy where he served for two years. Bob married his high school sweetheart Mille Lucas on April 17, 1948. Bob worked for Safeways for 34 years and prior to retirement often helped set up meat markets for new stores in the Northwest. After retirement, he and his Mille were often campground hosts and enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing, gardening, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Bob always had a twinkle in his eye, a warm and friendly greeting, a delightful sense of humor and a zest for life. He loved sports of all kinds and was an avid outdoorsman who loved hiking, fishing and hunting. He caught one of the largest rainbow trout ever recorded in the northfork of the Coeur d’Alene River. He was a skilled woodworker whose furniture and birdhouses grace the homes and gardens of family and friends.

Bob was a loving husband, wonderful and involved dad in the lives of his daughters and grandchildren, and great friend who was always present with a kind word and helping hand. The world is better for the gift of Bob’s life and he will be greatly missed by family and friends.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staffs of Hospice of North Idaho and Aging Better Home Health Care for their excellent and loving care of Bob.

A private celebration of life will be held for family and close friends.

Memorials may be made in Bob’s honor to Hospice of North Idaho 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835 or the charity of one’s choice.

Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel, is entrusted with the care of final arrangements. Friends are invited to share condolences and memories of Bob online at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
