SCAM: This one narrowly averted
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 13 years, 8 months AGO
Thought I would let you know of a call I received recently that your readers might be interested in.
I received a call and my son answered the phone. The person said, is grandpa there? My son said, who is this? He said Dillon, who is my grandson in California. My son gave me the phone and I said hi Dillon. His voice was rough and he said he had strep throat. Told me he was in jail in Canada, was arrested. He was with friends in a car and they found 3-6 ounces. He said they would let him go since they gave him a blood test and it was clean — for $1,600.
I told him I had no money and he said to get a cash advance on a credit card. I asked if he called his father in California and he said no. He said I could talk to the police right now and if I sent them the money they would let him go. I said again I have no money and he hung up.
I called his father (my son) in California and told him what happened and he said Dillon was there in bed. I almost got ripped off so you might want to let your readers know.
There is a little more to the story but I am running out of words, but you have most of it. Thanks and people beware.
