The Kootenai County Democratic 2012 Presidential caucus is set for Saturday, with doors opening at 9 a.m. and closing at 10 a.m.

The venue will be the Harding Family Center, 411 N. 15th St., Coeur d'Alene. Idaho Democrats come together in county caucuses to select their presidential nomination and elect delegates to the State Convention on June 14.

At that time national delegates will be selected for the Sept. 4 convention and the party platform will be crafted. This gathering is an opportunity for Democrats to meet local Democratic candidates as well as fellow Democrats.

A recorded speech from the president will be broadcast.

"Lack of competition means this event will not offer the drama or draw the crowds of 2008, but the caucuses are important gatherings for party members who want a say in the party's state and national platforms," according to a press release.

The Democratic Caucus is open to all voters registered in Kootenai County. A registration table will be set up to qualify new voters. Participants must pledge themselves as a Democrat for this nominating process.

"They are not bound by that pledge for the general election in November, but are prohibited from participating in any other party's caucus," the release said.
