COLUMBIA FALLS - Both Polson tennis teams stayed undefeated in match play with convincing victories over Northwestern A Conference foe Columbia Falls on Thursday. The Pirates downed the Wildcats 6-1 while the girls swept with a perfect 7-0 score. They’ll play at the Cut Bank Invitational this weekend.

BOYS

Brady Hislop downed No. 1 C-Falls singles player Miroslav Zvyagelskiy in a tight 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 battle. Hislop has faced two impressive opponents in his past two matches and has risen to the occasion each time in this early season. He wasn’t the only one doing work though, Polson showed depth with wins by singles players Dylan McCrumb, Hayden Congdon and Reed Hovenkotter.

Congdon showed his versatility playing singles, after being part of the No. 2 doubles squad that helped clinch a 4-3 victory over the two-time defending state champions, Corvallis, last week.

Columbia Falls picked up it’s lone win of the match with Parker Johnson and Brian Marcille winning a close 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) victory over Polson’s Will Davey and Ian Laimbeer. The Pirates’ Tommy Mercer and Sam Kinzle won in No. 2 doubles and Jared Gallatin and Jon Murphy scored a victory in No. 3 doubles.

GIRLS

Whitney Zimmerman improved her record to 4-0 on the season with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over the Wildkats’ No. 1 singles player, Grabrielle Stenger. The rest of the Lady Pirates followed suite and dominated their Northwestern A opponent with a 7-0 victory.

Sara Robinson won by forfeit in No. 2 singles, while No. 3 Kylee Wegner and No. 4 Lauren Dupuis scored victories against their opponents.

Polson’s talented double teams completed the sweep with just one game won by the Wildkats’. No. 1 doubles team Jordan Quinn and Karly Rochin won 6-0, 6-0 as did Kenzie Clay and Mollybeth Hendrix at No. 2. Audra Engebretson and Karmen Borchers rounded out the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Columbia Falls’ No. 3 doubles team.

You’ll have to excuse me for stating the obvious, I’m assuming everyone in Polson already knows this but Neal Lewing is one heck of an actor. I was first able to see the Port Polson player as Judge Turpin in the production of Sweeney Todd last November.
