COEUR d'ALENE - Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Luna will be here Monday to announce that the Coeur d'Alene School District will receive technology grants to help build 21st Century classrooms as part of Students Come First.

An instructional management system will give classroom teachers instant access to current, accurate data and tools to develop lesson plans, share best practices, and assess and analyze student progress throughout the school year, according to a press release.

The Coeur d'Alene School District is set to receive $250,000. Other districts earmarked for funds include Lakeland, $150,000; Boundary County, $100,000, and Lake Pend Oreille, $150,000.

The technology grants are funded through a donation from the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation, which provided $21 million in 2011.

"Because of seed money from the Albertson Foundation, some functions of the instructional management system - such as access to content standards and lesson-planning tools - are currently available in every classroom across the state today," according to a press release.

Fifteen select school districts will pilot additional tools that allow teachers to immediately assess students, monitor academic progress, and guide instruction on a daily basis. These tools will be rolled out to all schools statewide in the future.

Luna will explain more about the state's instructional management system and how Coeur d'Alene schools will use the funding at the grant announcement at noon Monday at Canfield Middle School.

The State Department of Education is also hosting a post-legislative tour with schools and districts across Idaho April 9-17. As part of this series of meetings, Luna is meeting with the parents who volunteer and work hard in our schools each and every day.

The meeting is set for 7 p.m. Monday, at the Coeur d'Alene School District Midtown Center.
