COEUR d'ALENE - Attempted murder charges were filed Friday against a 30-year-old Post Falls man following a stabbing at a bikini bar in downtown Coeur d'Alene.

Jeremy D. Lyght made his first appearance in Kootenai County court on that charge and his bond was set at $500,000 by Magistrate Robert Caldwell. He's currently being held at Kootenai County jail.

"There's no way I could possibly make that" bond amount, Lyght told the court.

Caldwell also put a no-contact order in place to keep Lyght from alleged victim Derek Ward, 25.

Ward, who was stabbed in the neck, was treated for four to five hours at Kootenai Medical Center before being released Friday morning.

Lyght faced previous criminal charges in 2004 and 2005 in Montana. Both cases were related to drugs. There's no prior criminal history for him in Kootenai County, according to court records.

The stabbing occurred inside Rendezvous night club, the former Torch Lounge, located at 216 E. Coeur d'Alene Ave. Club representatives declined to comment.

Police, in a press release, said the stabbing was reported at 1:40 a.m. Friday.

A prosecutor told the court Lyght's alleged attack was unprovoked.

She said the two men had been talking earlier in the night and Ward's back was turned to Lyght before the attack.

The prosecutor said Lyght fled the scene but was tackled by a club bouncer.

In an interview with The Press, Ward said Lyght allegedly tried to stab him in the eye, too. He had a cut on his eye and a long cut on his cheek, along with the gash to his neck.

The blade dug two inches deep into his neck and missed his carotid artery by a millimeter, Ward said he was told by doctors.

The cut to his neck was 4 inches long. It required 25 stitches to close.

Ward said Lyght attacked him "over a woman" both men knew, who also happened to be an ex-girlfriend of Lyght's.

Ward said Lyght grabbed his head from behind with one arm and plunged the knife in with his other hand.

"I'm lucky he didn't have a gun," Ward said. "Everyone keeps telling me I'm lucky to be alive."

Ward said he didn't get a good look at the knife used in the attack except for the moment when the tip of the blade was coming toward his eye.

He declined to share additional details about the attack.
