Vikings, Amos, Roletto among winners

COEUR d'ALENE - The North Idaho College volleyball team, which finished ninth at the NJCAA tournament, was named the North Idaho College Team of the Year during the 50th North Idaho Sports Banquet on Saturday night at the Best Western Coeur d'Alene Inn.
The Coeur d'Alene High football team won a second-straight state 5A championship with a 12-0 record. Viking coach Shawn Amos was named North Idaho Coach of the Year for the larger schools and the team was also named the Male Team of the Year for the larger schools. Nezperce basketball coach Dave Baldus was named North Idaho Coach of the Year for the smaller schools.
Coeur d'Alene senior Joe Roletto, a standout in football, basketball and baseball for the Vikings, was named Male Athlete of the Year for the larger schools.
Lewiston High girls basketball player Chelsea Waters was named Female Athlete of the Year. Her coach, Pat Teichmer, was named North Idaho Coach of the Year for Female Sports for the bigger schools. Troy volleyball coach Tara Stoner won the award for the smaller schools.
Lake City’s softball team, which went unbeaten with a 26-0 record in 2011, was named the North Idaho Female Team of the Year for the larger schools. The Timberlake girls track and field team, which won its first state 3A championship last year in Boise, was honored among the smaller schools.
Idaho volleyball coach Debbie Buchanan, a former St. Maries High standout who guided the Vandals to the semifinals of the Western Athletic Conference tournament, was named North Idaho Coach of the Year, and Vandal punter Bobby Cowan, whose 46.41-yard average ranked second in the nation, was named North Idaho Male College Athlete of the Year. Lewis-Clark State women’s basketball player Jasmine Stohr, a first-team NAIA All-American, was named North Idaho Female College Athlete of the Year.
Five people were inducted into the Idaho Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday night — Dave Fealko, Nick Menegas, the late Joe Tofflemire, Don Rinaldi and David Snodgrass.
Also inducted into the Hall of Fame was the 2002 Lakeland High girls basketball team, which won its second straight state championship that year.
