Ephrata tennis splits match with Toppenish

TOPPENISH - The Tigers strolled into Wildcat country Friday the 13th looking to take a couple of matches from Toppenish. But a split was all they could manages as the girls shut out the home team 5-0, and the boys lost 3-2.

Bianca Schley, Ephrata's No. 1 singles got things going for the Tigers with a two set (6-2, 6-2) win over Yessica Regis. No. 2 singles Naomi Kooistra followed suit with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Andrea Padilla.

The No. 1 doubles team of Tiana Schmitz and Tessa Ratigan kept pace downing Blanca Romero and Courtney Stancliffe in two sets, 6-0, 6-2. Kim Beck and Aubrey Denley, the Tigers No. 2 doubles, defeated Karina Morales and Belen Lustre

 6-0, 6-2, and the No. 3 doubles Allison Pheasant and Demi Brekhus turned back Gladys Cuellar and Samantha Cuno, 6-4, 6-4 to complete the shutout.

Boys

The boys started off on the right foot in their matches against the Wildcats as they took the two single matches.

The No. 1 singles Michael Bosnar defeated Ruben Martinez 6-2, 6-2, and Matt Jones, the Tigers No. 2 singles turned back Reymundo Enciso in three sets 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 6-0. But the doubles teams dropped all their matches to give Toppenish the win.

The No. 1 doubles team of Hunter Sears and Calvin Callahan lost to Gavin Reynolds and CJ Stauffer 2-6, 3-6. Conner Maddalozzo and Mauricio Contreras the Tigers No. 2 doubles lost in two sets to Nick Huylar and Ricardo Palmas,  2-6, 3-6, and the No. 3 doubles tandem of Carl Srickler and Nick Peterson dropped their match to Jose Patiño and Enedeo Garza, 3-6, 2-6.

CASHMERE - Ephrata was back on the road Saturday to take on the Bulldogs in a non-league match.

The Tigers found the going rough in Cashmere as the girls and boys lost by identical 3-2 scores.

As was the case against Toppenish the day before, the No. 1 and No. 2 singles boys singles won their matches. But the doubles teams dropped its games.

Ephrata's No. 1 singles Hunter Sears turned back Warren Robertson is two sets, 6-0, 6-2. Michael Bosnar defeated Chad Raven in three sets, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5, but Matt Jones, the Tigers No. 3 singles lost his match to Giorgio Jumenez 5-7, 2-6.

Ephrata's No. 1 doubles Calvin Callahan and Mauricio Contreras lost to Adam Ross and Nathan Sites 1-6, 5-7. The No. 2 doubles Conner Maddalozzo and Carl Strickler were defeated by Dawson Taylor and Trey Michael 0-6, 5-7.

Girls

The Tigers No. 1 singles Bianca Schley handled Molly Kenoyer 6-4, 6-2, and Aubrey Denley Ephrata's No. 2 singles got by Meg Green in two sets 7-6 (7-2), 6-1. But the No. 3 singles Kim Beck dropped her match to Umbee Cho 1-6, 0-6 to start a string of three losses. No. 1 doubles Tiana Schmitz and Tessa Ratigan lost to Mikela Kowatsch and Tasha Kowatsch 2-6, 1-6, and the No. 2 doubles team of Allison Pheasant and Demi Brekhus were beat by Sammy O'Bryan and Mikayla Sites.

Ephrata tennis is back on the court tomorrow when the Tigers host East Valley at 5 p.m.
