Justine May Smith, 90, was born June 19, 1921, in Hayden Lake to Vera G. and Justus G. Smith.
She attended school in Coeur d’Alene and graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1937 as Valedictorian of her class. She went on to the University of Idaho where she graduated in 1942 with a B.A. in business administration.
She moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, and worked as a secretary for Morrison Knudson Co. She is believed to be the first woman to travel the Alcan Highway. She returned to Coeur d’Alene and worked for Broderick Motors for many years before she moved with her mother to Idaho Falls and worked at I.N.E.L. for Westinghouse Electric.
She raised purebred Pekingese dogs and showed them for many years. Justine was a very talented artist and did a lot of painting in her later years.
Justine is survived by her sister, Shirley; brother-in-law Louis Tarallo; and two nieces, Debra Biorn and Gina Lancaster.
No services will be held at this time.
