Harriet Emma Keys, 76, beloved mother and grandmother, of Royal City, Washington, passed away April 9, 2012.

She was born in 1935 in Wenatchee, WA, and was a lifetime resident of Royal City. Harriet was the daughter of Forest Grove and Florence Harriet Chadbourne. She leaves behind many family members and friends. Harriet is survived by her daughters Kriss Crittenden, Parkside, SASK; Shon Smoot, Las Vegas, NV; Shelley Henderson, Coulee City, WA; and Debra Wesselius, Centralia, WA; grandchildren Sydney Crittenden, Spokane, WA; Kayce Davis, Deltona, FL; Colten Davis, Hoquiam, WA; Sheena Feik, North Powder, OR; and Quade Henderson, Coulee City, WA; and great-grandchildren Lilly, Rayne, & Hudson Davis; and sister LouAnn Davis. She is preceded in death by her parents Forest and Florence Chadbourne and by her granddaughter Jaclyn Henderson.

In Royal City, Harriet was employed by the Royal School District and worked at the Red Rock Elementary School. She was a homemaker and ranch wife, and loved to square dance. She was an accomplished horsewoman, a love she passed on to her daughters. Harriet was active in the community, serving as a 4-H leader of home economics for many years. She was also an accomplished seamstress. In addition to sewing all the clothes for her daughters and creating beautiful square dance dresses for herself, she created gowns for local pageant contestants and suits for many regional rodeo royalty courts.

Harriet's children, grandchildren, and other family members loved her dearly. She was a kind, generous, and loving mother, grandmother, and person. Harriet will be sorely missed by all who had the good fortune of knowing her.

Graveside services were held for Harriet on Monday, April 16 at 2:00 p.m. at the Royal Memorial Gardens/Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Royal City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Harriet's name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Inland Northwest Chapter, 818 East Sharp, Spokane, WA 99202.
