BIGFORK — Ronan golfers fought unfavorable weather conditions and two tough courses to post impressive numbers in a pair of rounds last week.

In Bigfork on Thursday, the Maidens didn’t have enough golfers to qualify for a team score, but saw Shyann Brum finish 10th overall with a 119, Daron Whitedirt just a few strokes back at 122 and Kristen Lykens not far behind with a 127.

“She played well,” head coach Rupe Paulson said of Brum. “Conditions during the first hour were rainy. It was a high-scoring event, but I was pleased with her performance on that tough course.”

The Chiefs, meanwhile, posted a 372 in Bigfork, good for a fourth-place finish in the 13-team event. Led by Alex Killian’s sixth-place 85 and Lucas Conklin’s seventh-place 87, Ronan’s boys were right in the thick of things.

“Alex wasn’t happy and wants to be better, but sixth place is pretty good,” Paulson said. “He’ll post some better scores.

“Lucas was pretty excited about his score,” Paulson added.

Later in the week, the Chiefs and Maidens took on the Plains course and while the scores were higher, there were several notable performances by the golfers.

Lykens notched a 132, but turned her fortunes around as the round progressed.

“She played well on the back nine,” Paulson said. Paulson also mentioned the performance of Cassidy Cheff, who shot a 162 in her first-ever round.

The Chiefs were without their top three golfers in Plains and while some of them struggled a bit, they all had a good time, according to Paulson, and still managed to finish fifth out of nine teams.

Conklin registered a 103, Dalton Molzhon was just a stroke behind with a 104 and Colton McCray was on their heels with a 107. Chris Clary kept pace for the most part, shooting a 113 while Jared Dupuis posted a 138.

Thursday, April 19, Ronan will play its only home tournament of the season at 10 a.m., hoping to take advantage of the familiar links before heading to Thompson Falls on Saturday, April 21.
