QUINCY - Quincy police plan to hold a town hall meeting Thursday night to speak about public safety issues.

The meeting is divided between English and Spanish language presentations at the Quincy Community Center, located at 115 F St. SW. The Spanish language presentation takes place between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. The English language presentation takes place between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Police chief Richard Ackerman said the meeting will focus on quality of life issues in the community. The forum allows people to say what they want from the police department.

"Let's have a two-way verbal exchange with folks in the community," he said. "Hopefully people will come. We're going to have some food and drinks and make that part of the attraction."

The forums allow the department to gather information for its strategic plan, Ackerman said. The five-year plan sets goals for the department.

"We're putting out again, the form for people to respond to us," he said. "This will be another way to do it."

He compared the series of forums to a set of forums Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones scheduled across the county.

"If people want to vent, they can vent. If they just want to share some experiences, they can ask for a service request," he said. "There will be a brief presentation, but it's not going to be about talking heads. It's not going to be about me up there for an hour talking ... Nothing is off the table."

More town hall meetings are scheduled for June 21, Aug. 16 and Oct. 18.
