Raymond Litchfield, 90

Raymond T. Litchfield, 90, of Hayden, died April 12, 2012. He was born Jan. 12, 1922, in Boston, Mass.

Raymond is survived by his son, Theodore “Ted” Litchfield and Ted’s wife, Teressa; daughter and grandson, Kim and Stephen Smith; and step-daughter, Dawn Todd. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, who passed on Feb. 25, 2012.

Raymond was retired from the United States Marine Corps as a Master Sergeant, Communications Chief. During World War II he fought in the battle for Iwo Jima among others. He fought in Korea for a year in 1950-1951 and his unit was engaged in the Chosin Reservoir Battle.

His second career was with the U.S. Postal Service where he retired as Postmaster in Brisbane, Calif. He served as president of the Chamber of Commerce for Brisbane. Ray and Joyce lived in the Coeur d’Alene area for 19 years. Ray was a life member of The Marine Corps League’s local Pappy Boyington Detachment. He served as adjutant and paymaster for several years. Ray was active as a leader of the “Toys for Tots” program in Kootenai County. He was well respected and loved by his Marine brothers.

A military graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Forest Cemetery conducted by the Marine Corps League Pappy Boyington Detachment.
